Safe Arrival at the Mexico City MTC

Nathan arrived in Mexico City and emailed around 4pm, PST on Wednesday, January 27th.

Dear Fam,

I have arrived safely in Mexico City and am currently emailing you from the MTC. The travel went smoothly.  I met up with some sister missionaries in Phoenix.

We are all very excited. I did not feel nervous at all navigating the airport with a pack of missionaries by my side.

While we were waiting for a pair of missionaries that didn't show, we talked to some kind policemen by the taxi services. They didn't speak a word of English. I wish I had my Spanish copy of the BOM.  One of the sisters handed him an English copy. I was able to talk with him a little bit. I told him we were Mormons and asked if he had friends who were LDS. Then I told him we believed Joseph Smith was a prophet.

The kind people that came to pick us up spoke very little English as well.

Love you,
Elder Hale

Airports and Waterfalls

4am came quickly this morning - especially after being up so late packing.  The family left about 4:45 am to take Elder Hale to the airport.

Jammies and blankets

Sleep deprivation did not help the momma's emotional state, and she cried.  A. Lot.

Mom trying not to cry.  Unsuccessfully.
Maybe if Mom hadn't been crying, he would have smiled

See you in two, Elder Nathan Hale!  You will be an awesome missionary!  We love you!  Vaya con Dios!

Monday, Monday

Elder Hale's morning exercise today included a beautiful walk along the boardwalk at Strands Beach. It also included a ton of stairs, hills, the Headlands, Aunt Audra, Uncle Dave, Megan, and Mom. Good times...

We ended up having an encore farewell party Monday night for all the people who wanted to drop by the house and say goodbye to Nathan, but didn't know or didn't receive their invitation to the Sunday brunch.  We had a huge pot of Birthday Soup (Hearty Tuscan Potato Soup with Italian Sausage), salad, rolls, and oodles of cookies for anyone who stopped by. Time to get packing...

So Long, Farewell!

Nathan spoke in church today and did an amazing job!  Jonathan also gave a talk, and sang with several of his boys chorus buddies - aka The Bow Tie Bros.  Even with their changing voices they sounded fabulous!

Thank you to everyone who joined us this weekend in supporting Nathan!  Many of you traveled great distances to be here and we truly appreciate your sacrifice.

We had unbelievably fantastic weather for the after-church brunch.  Unfortunately, I don't think anyone took pictures.  You will have to take our word for it - yummy food, fabulous friends and family, and beautiful, blue skies.  It was a fabulous day!

Nathan and his life-time friend, Luka.  (Love Megan and Jason photobombing in the background!)
